Adult ADHD in Silicon Valley and the South Bay

One of the more confusing ADHD presentations is a person who can do very difficult work but struggles with ordinary follow-through. They may solve complex problems, learn quickly, or perform well under pressure while repeatedly putting off routine tasks that are less interesting, less urgent, or harder to initiate.
Capability and consistency are not the same thing.
Why high performers are sometimes diagnosed later
Strong ability, perfectionism, novelty, and deadline pressure can compensate for executive-function difficulties for years. The system works—until it becomes too costly. Chronic late nights, repeated crises, overpreparation, or dependence on urgency can eventually stop feeling sustainable.
A diagnosis still requires more than recognizing that pattern. The evaluation has to consider anxiety, depression, sleep, burnout, medical factors, and whether the difficulties reflect a longstanding neurodevelopmental pattern.
